My interest in finance began with a practical question rather than a textbook definition: why can a manufacturing business report strong sales while its cash and operating decisions remain under pressure? During my undergraduate study in industrial engineering, I learned to examine production systems through data, but I also saw that operational improvements only become durable business decisions when managers can evaluate their financial consequences.

My academic preparation has given me a quantitative foundation for this transition. In my capstone project, A demand-forecasting capstone using Python and LightGBM, with an 18% lower MAPE, I cleaned production and order records, compared model errors, and explained the limits of the forecast to non-technical teammates. The project taught me that a numerical result is useful only when its assumptions, sensitivity and decision context are made explicit.

At Supply Chain Data Analyst Intern at Hangzhou Qinghe Instruments, I applied the same discipline to replenishment decisions. By combining SQL extracts with a weekly inventory review, I Reduced pilot inventory days by 11% through SQL-based replenishment analysis. This experience moved my attention from efficiency in isolation to the allocation of working capital, the cost of uncertainty and the trade-offs behind operational choices. It also showed me the limits of my current training: I can identify patterns and operational drivers, but I need systematic finance knowledge to assess value, risk and alternative uses of capital.

I am applying for MSc in Finance (P04) at City University of Hong Kong · 2027/28 Fall because the programme offers a rigorous setting in which to develop that bridge. I am particularly interested in building a stronger framework for financial analysis and valuation, then testing it through cases that require both quantitative reasoning and clear communication. My goal is not to abandon my engineering background, but to use it more responsibly when analysing industrial companies whose operating data, investment choices and financial risks are closely connected.

After graduation, I plan to pursue the path of Become a data-informed finance analyst for industrial companies in the Greater Bay Area. I hope to contribute to investment evaluation, performance analysis and risk reporting while remaining attentive to how decisions work on the factory floor. My preparation for this path includes strengthening financial concepts, improving my English academic writing, and learning to communicate uncertainty without hiding behind technical language.

My statement is prepared for 2027/28 Fall intake and follows a target length of 不超过500个英文单词. I would bring to the programme an engineer’s habit of checking assumptions, a data analyst’s respect for evidence, and a clear willingness to learn the financial logic that connects analysis with accountable decisions.
